The barista guy I used to have a crush on is showing interest?

So last week, he saw me without a mask a couple of times outside the cafe (they have glass panes so everything is visible). He started staring at me a lot. He would make lot of eye contact which I had no idea how to react to. So I usually either stared back or looked away.

He would constantly keep looking into my eyes lol. Then one time, I was getting popcorn and there were 3 guys on the tills, all free. This guy was on the last till. The moment I queued up to go to the guy in front of me, he started waving at me to come over.

Stupidly I went over to him instead of the one at the front.
He continued the staring and wished me good day.

Now this week, he's gotten really talkative. He did the hey how are you yesterday.

Today, he was there again and he and his team members were unpacking waterbottles etc.
I queued up to for placing an order and a girl was on the till. The moment I came over to the counter, he also came over next to his colleague at the till and was looking at me.

Stupidly, I waved at him and he asked me how I was and I asked him back. He said he was good and I went like good to hear he was doing good. I explained how I have to study etc and he was also like the situation outside is not good.

His colleague who was taking my order was listening but didn't talk.

I gave my order and went over to wait for my drink. He came over and stared again then gave me my drink and wished me have a good day , see you.
I did the same.

what does this mean?

At this point it could mean several things. However, a lot of eye contact definitely shows interest in my opinion. Since you don't know anything about him yet, I would keep up the small talk for now, and see how that goes.

Several things??? What do you mean by those??

Meaning you don't know what type of person he is or what his intentions on perusing a relationship are at this point. He might be just looking/staring at you because he finds you attractive, and wants nothing more, or it's possible he does want more, and wants to get to know you too but is shy. Take it slow with small talk, don't move to fast. Small talk is a nice ice breaker, and a nice way to proceed as you get to know him better.

Yeah I agree with you. He's clearly changed his stance as he kept staring at me and it was a bit weird as I didn't know how to respond so he barely got any responses from me rather than a hey.

Since he greeted me yesterday, it's now a familiar thing that he's a cashier whom I am familiar with. Today he stood next to his colleague who was taking my order to chat so he clearly is pretty upfront now.

He's also Spanish I think as he wears a badge with the flag of Spain and talks in Spanish a lot. Has a pretty heavy accent which sounds cute lol. But I'm also wondering how will we talk if he actually does ask me out lmao

Good point! Well, I would just keep stopping by and try to communicate the best you can with him. The fact that he's working makes it tough too. Maybe you can catch him on break sometime, dno. Plus at this point you don't know if he has a significate other or not. Good luck to you, sounds exciting. :)

I met him again today and it was the pretty much the same situation. Normal greetings exchange and he did the usual, serving customers.

Then when he was giving me the hot drink, he held on to the cup and our hands touched. I'm fairly certain he did this intentionally as he was handing out the cups and leaving them on the counter. For me, he was at the end of the lane and held the cup until I took it from his hands. He's done it before as well.

He wished me again. What does he want?
Flirting or wants to hook up?

It's time to make a decision.  Do you want to go out with him?  He's clearly interested, but looking for affirmation from you. If you want to date him, smile, play with your hair and suggest you get coffee some day.  If not, smile, be nice and sweet and tell him that he seems nice, but you already have a boy friend.

But he's the one who has to say something ? As a customer I can't really say something as I'm unsure if he's flirting only. What if I say it then he says no? I go there everyday go get drinks and snacks and it will make it very awkward hence I'm waiting for him.

No risk it, no biscuit.  As an employee he may be limited to what he can say to a customer.

You keep saying things like "stupidly, I" when you respond to him.  Why is it stupid?  He clearly is interested in you.  You are trying to be standoffish and aloof.  Why is this.

You are either interested or not.  If interested, say something to him.  If not tell him to leave you alone.  It is not up to him to wooo you and get you in bed, so you can complain about being taken advantage of.

Part of the job is yours.  Do it.

Like any normal guy, he wants you on your back with your legs in the air.

But with the dance you two are doing,  it isn't clear to me that it will ever happen.

If you are interested, you need to act like it.  Ask him what he likes to do when he is not working, or anything.  Otherwise, nothing is happening, no matter what anyone wants.

0

He works there and it's really difficult for me to say something to him as he's either on the counter serving customers or doing other things.

I'm also not sure if he's simply flirting ??

0

You say he usually manages to wait on you.  While he is handing you your coffee, say something.  This is a flimsy excuse on your part.  So what if he is just flirting.?

0

If he's just flirting then me talking way too much will just make me look desperate. If he doesn't want anything rather than simply flirting he will also feel embarrassed that he threw the wrong signals and invited trouble for himself. Might even start distancing himself etc

0

So.  ????  If he is not meaning anything, he probably should rethink what he is doing.

and why do you care if he thinks you are desperate, if he isn't interested.  Besides, you are desperate.  Lol.

and if he distances himself, it isn't like you cannot get coffee from another person.

you have way too many excuses.

0

Lol no. I'm not. I'm just preparing myself for all types of situations. if he does something

I have to go there everyday and I don't want a scandal or gossip

But some guys are flirty? There are some who love female attention and will do anything to get it.

0

Lol. Talking to a guy while being served is pretty low on the scandal or gossip scale I think.  Except in your mind looking for excuses.

It is true that some guys are idiots and will do anything to get attention from women.  Of course, the same can be said for women.

but at this rate no one is getting laid.

0

Yeah but there are customers behind me. He cant keep talking to me as he needs to serve them. also I'm certain his colleagues will notice that he's way over friendly with 1 female customer who visits the shop regularly. And who knows what kind of relationship he has with his colleagues. If not great then they might even complain that hes a flirt or whatever and is there to chat with women rather than do his job.

I need to see some constructive action from him too. His own colleague had commented on my earrings, one of his female colleagues joke all the time so he can do so much. I ve had friends who received cups with hearts/phone numbers/ig handles on them from baristas/cashiers who flirted with them. But as he hasn't done those, I'm hesitant.

Excuses excuses excuses.  You have stated that sometimes he will wait on you instead of letting someone else help you.  It isn't like there a long line around the block all the time.  You are stalling.

Guys will almost never comment on earings.  They must have been spectacular.

It doesn't have to be up to him.

You state “The barista guy I used to have a crush on is showing interest?”

Q: If you no longer have a *crush* on the barista guy, what difference does it make. Find out his name from his friend and say Hola/Hello.

I know his name. It's on his badge. Says Ivan

Ask him not us, we can only guess based on your observations.

0

OK so please guess??? As I can't directly ask him at his workplace?.

0

Meet him after work. He has to leave the building sometime.

Too many variables for me to guess.

You can ask his work friend if Ivan even speaks English. At least that’s a start.

0

Ivan? Speaks spanish?  Not exactly a good spanish name.  Lol.

0

Yeah right? It's a Russian name but he's from Spain or Latin A and only talks in Spanish?

His accent is really heavy so I'm not sure if he is even able to talk a lot in English.

The only time you can't tell he has an accent is when he's greeting like hey how are you. The moment he starts talking more , the accent comes out and I'm quite certain he isn't fluent as when he was trying to say how bad the situation is outside,  he said 1 sentence which was kind of not really that right haha then couldn't

Most latinos in my uni have this same problem. Only the students and academics from Latin America or Spain can talk in English. The working class have very limited English knowledge. Im not sure what he does though as he seems quite young like early to mid twenties so I wonder why his English is like this? I think he's probably moved from Spain to UK, didn't have much English education or friends who speak English in the UK and socialises only with Spanish speaking people.??? as such a guy cannot be a refugee or asslyum seeker ???
