Spendthrift Farm, the owner and breeder of grade 1 winner Tamara , went to the platform X (formerly known as Twitter) Nov. 6 to report that the daughter of Bolt d`Oro exited the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) with a hind leg injury.
Tamara, trained by Richard Mandella, sustained a small fracture in her splint bone in her left hind "that will not require surgery," according to Spendthrift. The farm wrote that the 2-year-old filly "will get some much-deserved rest as she recovers."
The regally-bred Tamara, a daughter of the Hall of Fame race mare Beholder , had finished seventh as the 4-5 favorite in the Nov. 3 Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita Park. Entering the Breeders' Cup on a two-race win streak, the filly led the race through splits of :22.47, :46.60, and 1:10.95 before fading at the top of the stretch. She was beaten 8 1/4 lengths behind the winner Just F Y I . The race was her first time stretching out beyond seven furlongs.
